Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy
(MDT/McKenzie Method)
The McKenzie Method of mechanical diagnosis and therapy is a clinical approach trusted by physicians and patients world wide. It is a system of assessment, classification and treatment for musculoskeletal problems. It’s aim is to determine whether someone’s mechanical pain of the joints, nerves or muscles has a directional preference. Using this approach allows a clinician to empower patients by providing them with the tools and the knowledge on how to control their symptoms and how to manage future flares or recurrence.
Using this method of assessment, the clinician places an emphasis on a systematic approach to identify the source of pain and tailor the treatment to each individual effectively. By doing this, the patient will learn methods on how to self treat the current problem and provide insight on how to prevent or mitigate future occurrence.
