Dermal Traction Method
DTM
Directly beneath our skin in certain areas we have a series of nerves called superficial cutaneous nerves. These nerves typically do not have any motor supply but primarily provide sensory feedback (the feeling of something brushing your skin). Depending on our habits or activities in life, these nerves can become compressed or irritated resulting in pain or even pain referral elsewhere along their distribution.
Dermal Traction Method utilizes either a skin pulling or a cupping technique over these particular locations of cutaneous nerve sensitivity to remove compression of the nerves and reduce the pain. This at times when the nerves are very irritable can be quite uncomfortable, but very impactful afterwards when used appropriately.
